The Final Cut

Here's the "final" list of what I will be growing in my vegetable garden for 2011. I put "final" in quotes because I know I'll probably give in to seed lust at some point or another and add a few more things. Of the varieties listed, about 50% of them I've never grown before! Not on this list are the potatoes and onions that I will be growing (because I don't know what kinds I'll be getting yet). I also already have garlic in the ground as well as some raspberry plants.

The items highlighted in blue will be grown for sure. The items in highlighted in yellow are on my list of "maybes".

  1. Wow-what a selection! Love the variety of lettuce you will be growing....last year was my first for Red Sails-very nice and mild.
I'm not familiar with that pumpkin--is it large/carving/baking????

  2. Jarrahdale pumpkin (some consider it a pumpkin, others say is a winter squash) has green skin and orange flesh. It is somewhat flattened with deep ribs and can be 5-10 pounds. Besides being absolutely gorgeous (I still have two of them decorating my living room), they made good puree for soups and baking.

  4. orchid food from vanilla orchids is actually food for humans.More specifically,it is the second most expensive spice used in cooking. Vanilla is extracted from vanilla beans. These are the vegetables left behind when a vanilla orchid finishes blooming.
